Sunless Spray Tan

Dihydroxyacetone or DHA is the substance that sunless spray tan products use as a main ingredient; this chemical causes the browning of the skin thanks to an interaction with the amino acids in the dermis. The use of sunless spray tan does not involve pigmentation or ultraviolet exposure for the initiation of the coloring process. The main impact on the skin is the color change that lasts from three to ten days. Longer effects are achieved if the sunless spray tan combines DHA with another chemical: erythrulose, that prolongs the brownish look. Sunless and safe, this is the advantage of modern tanning systems.

Quality sunless spray tan products carry an FDA certification, but even so, there are cases when the ingredients of the treatments are not tolerated by the body. The most serious health problem generated by the application of a sunless spray tan is contact dermatitis triggered by the poor tolerance of erythrulose or DHA. And here we have a clear reason why every cosmetic treatment should be first tested on a small skin portion. It could take a few hours before the absorption is complete, and in order to be safe from allergies, do not apply the sunless spray tan until twenty four hours after the test.

If the skin remains clear in this time interval, then, it means that you tolerate the sunless spray tan well and that you may use it in safe conditions. Sunless spray tan can be applied either in cosmetic salons and spas or at home. The professional application is superior to any DIY solution, and the difference appears in the natural look, the uniformity of the tan and the color. Spray tan booths provide the most advanced tanning technology you can find, but the cost of the treatment is a bit higher than the rest of the methods.

In the case of the air-brusher, the sunless spray tan may not be perfect given the fact that overlapping is possible. Even so, the air-brusher is a superior technique to lotions and creams. A thin mist of tanning agents is atomized on the body, with the possibility to apply it twice for deep tan shades. Before the use of the sunless spray tan, make sure that the skin is clean, exfoliated and dry, but not oily.

Althogh DHA spray tans are considered the most efficient and reliable on the market, there are many other tanning solutions available such as gels and lotions. Tanning accelerators also include tanning pills that release tyrosine in the body, triggering the formation of melanin in the skin cells. Many such products are efficient when used in combination with ultraviolet exposure, however, such a cosmetic treatment is not always the best solution possible.
