Namaste Yoga Tips

Namaste Yoga has become a popular choice in stores that sell consumer DVDs on a variety of sports, exercise or fitness poses for health improvement. Since “yoga” is a common word, many people will wonder what makes “Namaste” different and what the word itself stands for.
Since not all versions of yoga are the same, it’s important to know what makes Namaste different. Now, this is not to infer that some styles of yoga are better than others (it would be best to let individual students make the decision on what is better for them based on their on personal experience), rather it is simply meant as a means of pointing out the fact that there are different styles and systems of yoga and each has their own special plan and methodology.
The Namaste term in Namaste Yoga is just a differentiating word that allows students to recognize one form of yoga over another.
What Namaste Means
The word “Namaste” in Indian means “I bow to you” which helps to explain this form of yoga. The reason that this saying applies to this form of yoga is because the exercises start with bringing your hands together in a steeple position and bowing simultaneously. In order to encourage the submissive nature of the yoga form, students say the word “Namaste” at the beginning and end of every class. This is an interesting addition to the western classes on yoga as it maintains a connection to the origins and the spiritual roots of the art.
Rather than showing off the particular moves of Namaste yoga, many of the exercises videos with its name just show off a collection of basic yoga exercises. Since many of these basic exercises do not need an instructor’s help, they will just show the indivudal how they can learn to study yoga on their own. If you want to learn some basics of Namaste yoga before seeing an instructor, the DVDs are helpful, but you need an instructor to really get the full impact.
Yoga is an excellent form of exercise and those looking to take part in it for physical benefit are making a wise choice. However, as the term Namaste infers, there are a number of historical and cultural aspects to the art that should be learned as well.
